#5 Virat Kohli
There is an ongoing debate about who is the best batsman in Test cricket currently and while a lot of experts rate Steve Smith above all, Virat Kohli, another competitor of his, has churned out an excellent record this year. The Indian skipper accumulated 1059 runs at a colossal average of 75.64.
He started the year with a double hundred against Bangladesh but went off the radar a bit in the series against Australia. But he made a strong comeback and scored 4 more hundreds in the year that included 2 back to back double centuries against Sri Lanka. Additionally, his captaincy has been outstanding as India lost just 1 Test in 2017 and strengthened the position as the top-ranked Test side in the world.
