3 Things Australia Needs to Address Before the World Cup

Australia has been the most successful ODI team in World Cricket. They are five-time World champions. So, undoubtedly we can say they are a strong competitor in that high-voltage tournament. They have just completed their series against South Africa by losing it. Their middle order was responsible for that loss. Also, they lost three consecutive ODIs in 100 or more runs. Which is quite odd for a team like Australia.

Before participating in the World Cup, Australia will face India in a three-match ODI series on Indian soil. It can be beneficiary for them to play on Indian soil before the World Cup. Plenty of cricketer was out of the cricket because of Injury in the Australian team. They are coming back before the World Cup. it is a huge relief for Australia. But here are three things that should be addressed by Australia before the World Cup.

  1.  Consistency in middle order:

Australia lost their last series against South Africa. They lost the series even after being raised 2-0. Just not that they lost consecutive three ODI internationals by 100 runs or more. The margin is huge. This is a big area to be looked after ahead of the World Cup.

The middle order is the most important place of an ODI match. Middle-order players make the bridge to lower order. This is the place where big partnerships can be made right after top order. To win a match or any tournament, it is necessary to make the middle order the strongest. Before stepping into the World Cup Australia should look after this thing well.

  1. The perfect partner of Warner in the opening:

As an opener, David Warner is slightly sorted. But the question is who will be the perfect partner for him? The top order is the base of an inning. So, to win a match opening should be the strongest. Mitchel Marsh is a strong competitor for that position. He was in a fairy form last time when he played in India. In India, he played three innings and made 194 runs with a strike rate of 131.08.

If this duo got a chance to stick in the wicket, it would be very hard for the opponent to put Australia on the back foot. Both the players can score under pressure. David Warner has more experience of playing in the World Cup as well as playing in India. So this duo can secure Australia’s win easily.

  1. Find a perfect allrounder:

As discussed before, Australia has a very balanced team. Australia has a few talented all-rounder but their form raised a concern before the World Cup. Just before the series against India Mitchel Marsh was captaining the Australian side in the series against South Africa. So, in that series, he played as a rounder. But Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green are two great all-rounders for Australia.

Marsh was a game-changer in the T20 but in the ODI his average was 24.60 which is not impressive ahead of the World Cup. One good news for the Australian team is Glenn Maxwell is coming back. He is an absolute asset to the team. He is also an all-rounder. So a big responsibility will be on his shoulder to carry the allrounder role smoothly.

It is just a few days left. All teams are having a quick checking session by playing their last series before the World Cup. Australia has an added advantage. They will be playing a three-match ODI series against India in India. Through the tournament, they will get to know the pitch conditions in India ahead of the World Cup.
