A fit Hardik Pandya makes India clear favourites: Eoin Morgan

World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan explains how a fit Hardik Pandya elevates India to legitimate contender status for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Undoubtedly, Hardik’s presence in the Indian team, provides a balance that every skipper looks for.

Morgan On Pandya

While talking about Pandya, former England Captain said, “The fitness level fo Hardik Pandya, his ability to bowl. He has bowl little bit in the Asia Cup so far but he has bowled really really well and there are very few sides in the tournament that would be a genuine contenders that will have somebody who bats in the tops six and and has the ability to bowl.”

During the Asia Cup, skipper Rohit Sharma has trusted Pandya with the ball, whenever his team was looking for a breakthrough. And Pandya has stepped up into that role of providing crucial successes in the middle over or anytime the team requires.

Morgan Compared the role of Pandya with that of Ben Stokes, saying, “It’s the old Ben Stokes role that we have for years with England.”

Veteran Kiwi seamer and commentator, Simon Doull agreed with Morgan’s take on Pandya. He further explained “I agree with Morgan on the Hardik Pandya thing. If he is fit and raring to go then they have the likes of Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja, they are very good,”

Elucidating further on the topic of home conditions, he said, “They didn’t get it right in Adelaide ( Semi- final match, ENG VS IND, T20 World Cup’ 22) but home conditions gives you a certain level of comfort, certain level of habit, they have already grooved over the years that is an advantage the other teams don’t have.”
