Aakash Chopra Advocates for Tri-Nation T20I and ODI Formats Before IND vs BAN Match

As the second T20I approaches in the three-match series between India and Bangladesh, former cricketer Aakash Chopra suggested that tri-nation T20I and ODI series could be more beneficial than bilateral matches. He argued that bilateral series often fail to deliver the expected results for broadcasters, making a tri-nation format more appealing. This approach could enhance competition and engagement, providing a more exciting viewing experience for fans and better returns for broadcasters.

Aakash Chopra Favors Tri-Nation Series Over Bilateral:

On his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra expressed that the tri-nation T20I and ODI series might offer greater advantages compared to bilateral contests. He emphasized that tri-nation formats are exciting and beneficial, highlighting their potential to enhance competition and engagement in international cricket.

He said, “ You are not challenged enough in bilaterals at times. Let’s be honest, whichever team comes to India plays ordinary cricket. So can tri-nation or quadrangular series be brought back? There is no existential crisis at the moment because the broadcasters are giving money and you are playing.”

He added, “ However, a day will come when the broadcaster will also raise their hands and say they are not getting the returns for their bucks, that they are paying but not gaining that much since the matches are not competitive as your team wins in 10 overs even if your main players don’t play. So what can be changed? I would say tri-nation series is a fantastic thing.”

Ultimately, Chopra emphasized that cricket boards need to adopt a more generous approach when it comes to revenue sharing. He believes that collaboration among boards will foster a better environment for the sport and benefit all stakeholders involved.

He concluded, “ How can it be done? Firstly, the boards will have to be slightly liberal in sharing the money. The world economy is changing slightly and the leagues are dominating. So let’s start making room for each other and go back towards tri-nation.”

India Looks to Seal the T20I Series:

Team India aims to secure the series as they face Bangladesh in the second T20I of the three-match series at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. Having already established a 1-0 lead following a convincing seven-wicket win in the first T20I in Gwalior, the team will be keen to maintain their momentum and clinch the series in this upcoming match.

India and Bangladesh have clashed 15 times in T20I cricket, with India holding a significant advantage, winning 14 of those matches. In terms of recent performance, the Men in Blue have been in excellent form, winning their last five T20I encounters. Conversely, the Bangladesh team, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, has struggled lately, securing only one victory in their last five matches. This stark contrast in form adds an interesting dynamic to their upcoming encounters.
