Another thrilling edition of the IPL has ended a few days ago. The cricket enthusiasts of India experienced another thrilling edition of the tournament. Even after performing well in the tournament, Rajasthan Royals made exit after facing defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 2. But before the next season, the mega auction will be held, and a lot of equations in the franchises. Aakash Chopra shared his view on this.
The Retaintion Scenario and Rajasthan’s Concern:
The recently ended IPL spread a lot of thrills. But before stepping into the next edition of the tournament, a lot of variables are there. The mega auction will be held before the tournament starts. As per the recent reports, BCCI is likely to keep the 3+1 retention process for the upcoming auction where a team can pick three Indian players and only one foreign players. That will be a concerning thing for the franchises.
Rajasthan Royals had an exciting season this year. The majority of the players showcased their enormous talents in this league. Starting from Josh Buttler to Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, and even Yuzi Chahal, everyone performed well. But they can only retain only 4 players in which only three Indian players will be allowed to retain.
Aakash Chopra on Riyan on Yuzi Chahal:
Rajasthan Royals had an excellent season this year. They performed exceptionally well but ended in the number 3 position after facing a defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 2. But their concern is arising over the retention ahead of the upcoming mega auction. For the foreign player section, they can choose Jos Buttler but the doubt is raising over selecting three Indian players. If they choose Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal then the they have to select one player between Riyan Parag and Yuzvendra Chahal as both of them performed exceptionally well in the tournament.
While talking about this Aakash Chopra said, “Jos Buttler will be one player I will retain. So you can assume he is my third retention. Now one between Riyan Parag and Yuzvendra Chahal. I will be very tempted to retain Riyan Parag because they have invested a lot in Riyan Parag. I can acquire Yuzi Chahal using the ‘Right to Match’ card, or else the other way around.”
On the Other Retentions:
In the retention, Aaksh Chopra seemed confident about Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s retention. Sanju being a long-time captain of the franchise, performed exceptionally well in this edition. Sanju Samson scored 531 runs in 15 innings with an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.47. His performance ranked him as the fifth-highest run-scorer in the tournament. In the 2024 IPL season, Yashasvi Jaiswal played 15 matches, scoring 435 runs with a highest score of 104*. He maintained an average of 31.07 and a strike rate of 155.91. Jaiswal achieved one century and one half-century during the tournament.
While talking about this, the former Indian player said, “The first will be the captain – Sanju Samson. Firstly, he is a good captain. (Ravichandran) Ashwin was saying the other day – ‘I don’t know where he has learned this art but he is a very good captain’. From wherever he might have learned, since he is captaining well, you want to retain him.”
Later he added, “The second, I feel you will have to keep Yashasvi Jaiswal. A player does not become bad because of a year going bad. He is a long-term investment. You retained him when he was uncapped, so you should 100% retain him now.”
