AB de Villiers Unhappy with Two-Match Test Series, Blames T20 Cricket Impact and Calls for Change

After a long time, India and South Africa met for a Test series. After ending the World Cup in 2023, Team India traveled to South Africa. In that tour, both teams are scheduled to play three T20s, three ODIs, and two Test matches. The Test series ended in a draw. The South African legend AB de Villers is not happy over that two-match Test series.

The Test Series Between India and South Africa:

India and South Africa locked horns in a two-match Test series. The first match was scheduled to happen at Centurion. In the first Test match, the South African squad batted exceptionally well. In front of the South African pace, the Indian batting lineup was just shattered. In a pressured situation, KL Rahul scored a responsible century. But their effort fell short. South Africa won the match by an innings and 32 runs.

The second Test match between India and South Africa was recorded as the shortest Test match ever. The match ended in just one and a half days. The pacers from both teams nailed in the match. On the first day, 232 wickets fell. Indian bowlers dominated the South African batter. In the first innings, Mohammed Siraj picked up 6 wickets in 15 runs. Mukesh Kumar took 2 wickets without conceding any runs. In the second innings, Jasprit Bumrah took 6 wickets. India won the match by eight wickets.

ABD’s Words:

South African legend AB de Villiers is not happy on that two-match Test series. The series ended in a draw. De Villiers said, “ I am not happy that there is not a third Test. You have to blame the T20 cricket going around the world for that. I do not know whom to blame, but I sense something is wrong. If you want to see all the teams compete and see who is the best Test team in the world, something has to change.”

After ending the series against India, South Africa will travel to New Zealand for a Test series. South Africa announced a young squad for the tour as the senior players will be busy playing SA20. ABD feels Test cricket is under pressure. He said, “ It has sent shockwaves around the cricketing world and has made it clear that Test cricket is under pressure, for that matter even ODI cricket, and the whole system is turning around T20 cricket.”

Later he added, “ The players, the board, and coaches will turn towards where there is more money. You cannot blame them for thinking about their future with their family.”
