Afghanistan’s remarkable victory against Pakistan was their first-ever win over their formidable opponents in the one-day format. Prior to this historic triumph, Afghanistan had faced seven consecutive losses against Pakistan in ODI matches. Babar Azam’s decision to bat first in the match on Monday resulted in Pakistan posting a competitive total of 282/7, with their skipper top-scoring at 74 off 92 balls.
The final stretch of their innings witnessed a powerful performance by Iftikhar Ahmed, who contributed a rapid 40 from just 27 deliveries. However, Afghanistan showcased their determination by successfully chasing down the target in 49 overs with eight wickets to spare. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran both set up the chase with an opening stand of 130 runs in 21.1 overs. Zadran, who was awarded the Player of the Match, scored 87 off 113 balls.

In a video shared on the ICC’s Instagram handle, Ibrahim Zadran expressed his plan to frame the bat he used during the historic victory. The bat, which played a crucial role in his innings, carries a unique sentimental value. Although he missed out on a century, Ibrahim’s 87 off 113 balls featured ten well-struck boundaries.
CHe partnered effectively with Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who made an aggressive 65 off 53 deliveries. Rahmat Shah (77* off 84) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (48* off 45) steered Afghanistan to the famous triumph after the departure of the openers, ensuring that the bat became a cherished keepsake symbolizing a momentous achievement in Afghanistan’s cricketing history.
