The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has officially confirmed Afghanistan’s upcoming all-format tour of Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in February and March 2024. The tour is expected to provide the national team with valuable international exposure ahead of major tournaments.
Afghanistan will commence their tour with a one-off Test match against Sri Lanka, scheduled to take place at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo from February 2 to 6. Following the Test match, the teams will shift to the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo for a series of three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) on February 9, 11, and 14. The tour will conclude with a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla on February 17, 19, and 21.
After the conclusion of their tour in Sri Lanka, Afghanistan will head to the UAE to host Ireland for another series. The series will kick off with a Test match at a venue in the UAE from February 28 to March 3. This will be followed by a series of three ODIs and three T20Is, all of which will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on March 7, 9, 12, 15, 17, and 18.
In a statement, the Afghanistan Cricket Board expressed its enthusiasm for the upcoming tour, highlighting the importance of these fixtures in the team’s preparation for future international competitions. ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf stated, “The addition of these three ODIs is a significant move to ensure a complete and comprehensive tour which not only provides good exposure to Afghanistan Cricket but will also foster stronger relations between the two nations. Playing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka is always tricky but is a challenge that AfghanAtalan can easily embrace.”
ACB CEO Naseem Khan added, “The Year 2024 is a very busy and full of highly voltage competitions for the Afghanistan National Team which is a very good and positive sign for Afghanistan Cricket. The upcoming tours of India, and Sri Lanka, and then the home series against Ireland will help us to prepare the team for the much-important T20 World Cup. Eagerly looking for the multiple series upfront.”
The upcoming tour is expected to provide Afghanistan’s national team with valuable match practice and exposure to different conditions as they prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup and other international assignments in 2024.
