The Afghanistan cricket faced another setback. After years, corruption has come over the nation. Ihsanullah Janat has been banned from all cricket for five years. This decision follows breaches of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and ICC Anti-Corruption Codes during the second Kabul Premier League edition.
ACB Banned Ihsanullah Janat:
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has immediately banned top-order batter Ihsanullah Janat from all cricket for five years. He was found guilty of violating ACB and ICC Anti-Corruption codes related to match-fixing during the second edition of the Kabul Premier League. Janat accepted the charges, leading to this significant ban.
Ihsanullah Janat debuted in first-class cricket for Afghanistan against the Netherlands in the ICC Intercontinental Cup on July 29, 2016. He has played three Tests, 16 ODIs, and one T20I, scoring 110 runs in Tests, 307 in ODIs, and 20 in T20Is. His international debut was in an ODI against Zimbabwe in February 2017, and he made his Test debut in March 2019 against Ireland.
ACB’s Statement on This Matter:
The ACB Anti-Corruption Unit has disclosed that three other players are under investigation for possible match-fixing. The inquiries are ongoing to determine their involvement in the issue. The statement said, “Janat was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which involves improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match.”
Later the statement added, “In light of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricket-related activities. Janat has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities.”
The ACB announced that it is investigating three additional players for match-fixing after finding Ihsanullah Janat guilty. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to address potential involvement in the issue.
The statement said, “The ACB Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has revealed that three other players are also under suspicion for involvement in match-fixing, and investigations are underway. Decisions regarding their involvement will be made upon confirmation of their guilt.’
