Afghanistan Wicketkeeper-Batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz Signs with Pretoria Capitals for SA20 2025

The Pretoria Capitals have made a significant addition to their squad for the upcoming SA20 2025 season by signing Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz. This move marks an exciting new chapter for Gurbaz, who will reunite with Jonathan Trott, the Capitals’ new head coach, under whom he previously played during Afghanistan’s historic run to the World Cup semi-finals earlier this year.

The Pretoria Capitals confirmed the news in a Tweet welcoming the Afghani wicketkeeper batter. “Can’t wait to see our Afghan star in action at Centurion Welcome, Gurbaz! ”, the Pretoria Capitals wrote in a Tweet, along with a reaction video of Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

“I am really excited to be a part of the Pretoria Capitals. Can’t wait to see you all there. Looking forward to do something better for my team in the upcoming season. See you soon in South Africa.”, the 22-year-old said in the video.

A Promising Career in T20 Cricket

At just 22 years old, Gurbaz has already established himself as a T20 globetrotter, currently competing for Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the Global T20 Canada. This will be his first stint in the SA20 league, although he has previously been part of the Capitals’ franchise in the ILT20 in Dubai, where he scored 146 runs in eight innings with an average of 18.25 and a strike rate of 155.31.

Gurbaz’s experience extends to the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well, where he won the title with Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this year. His impressive performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was the top run-scorer for Afghanistan with 281 runs in eight innings at an average of 35.12 and a strike rate of 124.33, further underscores his potential impact in the SA20.
