Before going to Ahmedabad with the team for the fourth and final test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, star Indian batsman Virat Kohli visited the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on Saturday to seek blessings with his wife, Anushka Sharma.
The cricketer was in Indore with the rest of the team for the third test match, which ended in less than two and a half days. Thus, the cricketer decided to take the one-hour journey from Indore to Ujjain to see the divine temple.
In a video that has been circulating all over the internet, the celebrity couple can be seen sitting inside the Mahakaleshwar Temple like common people and enjoying the bhajan prayer going on. Anushka can be seen wearing a pink saree while Virat can be seen wearing a white dhoti-kurta.
The power couple also participated in the famous ritual of ‘Bhasma Aarti’ at the temple. The ‘Bhasma Aarti’ is a traditional offering with ashes, which is performed during the auspicious time of Brahma Muhurta, which falls between 4 and 5:30 in the morning. The ritual involves the priests lighting a huge lamp and chanting sacred mantras while the devotees offer the ashes of cow dung and other sacred herbs to the deity.
After participating in the Bhasma Aarti, Anushka Sharma, and Virat Kohli visited the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and performed ‘Jalabhishek,’ another traditional Hindu ritual. Jalabhishek involves pouring holy water, milk, and other sacred liquids over the deity’s idol while chanting prayers and mantras.
As quoted by ANI, Anushka told the press, “We came here to offer prayers and had a good ‘darshan’ at Mahakaleshwar temple.”
It is no secret to anyone that Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are a religious couple. Earlier this year, the former Indian captain had also visited the Neeb Karori Baba Ashram in Uttarakhand with his wife.
