Former T20 World Cup winner Ahmed Shehzad has criticized Pakistan‘s pace bowler selection for the upcoming Ireland and England series. Hasan Ali, who played his last T20I against Sri Lanka in September 2022, is set to make a comeback to the shortest format of the game.
During an appearance on Geo News, Ahmed Shehzad shared his views on Ali’s return, stating, “Hasan Ali was going to find his way back in the team because see Azhar Mahmood has come, he likes Hasan Ali a lot. They have a close relation. Wahab Riaz has had a close relationship with Hasan Ali. Even Babar Azam is close with Hasan Ali.”
Expressing his concern, Shehzad questioned the rationale behind Ali’s selection, stating, “I am not able to find any performances to justify his place in the team. Even Haris Rauf was injured. Just after recovering, he has been selected. How?”
He further criticized the selection process, suggesting that if selections are based solely on performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), it could lead to a scenario where domestic cricket becomes irrelevant.
Shehzad’s comments shed light on the complexities of selection processes and raise questions about the criteria used to determine national team representation. As Pakistan prepares for its upcoming series, the controversy surrounding player selection adds another layer of intrigue to the cricketing landscape.
