The Super Eight stage witnessed a thrilling encounter between West Indies and South Africa with a last-ball six supremacy in the end. After having a great season, both teams met each other in the 10th match of the Super Eight stage, the clash was crucial as it was set to decide the second semifinalist. In this match, South Africa showcased amazing character and won the game by 3 wickets. With that win, they secured the semifinal space after a long wait. After the exciting game, South African skipper Aiden Markram reflected on the game.
On that Exciting Win:
After having an exciting season, South Africa met West Indies in their last Super Eight match. This match was the decider game for both teams for their semifinal qualification scenario. But South Africa nailed it. After their exciting bowling performance, they showcased their excellence in bowling. Tabraiz Shamsi and the other bowlers dominated the opponent. In the second innings, even the rain-interrupted, the South African side didn’t let the game move on the opposite way. They defeated the West Indies by 3 wickets.
After the win, Aiden Markram reflected on their performance. He said, “Lot of relief to get through to the semifinal. We would have liked to be a lot more convincing. The wicket was playing nicely after the rain break but we tried to kill the game too early. It put us in a tricky position but happy to get over the line.”
Later he added, “We bowled really well, assessed conditions and kept them to a sub-par total. We could have build a partnership after the break and then take it from there, we will take that learning and hopefully not do that same mistake again.”
Praising Shamsi’s Performance:
In this match, Tabraiz Shamsi came to the team after missing out last few games. As the venue favored spin, team management decided to name him on the team. That decision turned out to be a great decision. He performed exceptionally well. He secured 3 wickets just by conceding 27 runs with an economy rate of 6.8. After that amazing contribution, he was awarded the Player of the Match.
While praising the spinner, Markram said, “We picked Shamsi to have a mystery spinner against them and immediately saw it spinning, so we wanted to bowl as much spin as we can. If it wouldn’t spun that much then we would have used our pacers, not a lot of times when KG bowls only 2 overs.”
Later he added, “We have been doing really well, the bowling unit is firing and as a batting unit it is about when to take the game on. We need to be smart on those situations. I haven’t been following but whoever it might be we have to put our best foot forward.”
