The Maharaja, a former cricketer who once captained Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy, became the head of Nawanagar in 1966. His family has deep cricketing roots, tracing back to the famous cricketer Ranjitsinh Jadeja, who ruled Nawanagar from 1907 to 1933.
