The Border-Gavaskar Trophy heads to Adelaide for the second Test. However, the Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey has voiced confidence that his team could handle India’s pace ace, Jasprit Bumrah. After a tough outing in Perth, where Bumrah dismantled Australia with an outstanding nine-wicket haul, Carey believes the batters have learned valuable lessons about combating his unique bowling style.
“Bumrah is a fantastic bowler; he’s been brilliant for years,” Carey told reporters. “But our batters are world-class too. They always find solutions.”
Australia’s Plan to Tackle the Bumrah Threat
Australia’s primary focus will be to weather Bumrah’s early spells with the new ball. On the grassy Perth pitch, the Indian pacer exposed the vulnerabilities in Australia’s top order. He recorded match figures of 9/72 at an incredible average of 9.00.
Carey admitted that it was a challenge but insisted that they needed to push Bumrah into bowling deeper in the innings. “We’ve studied his approach. If we can survive his first two spells, we’ll force him to work harder with the older ball,” Carey explained.
Travis Head’s aggressive 89-run knock in Perth, coming off a worn-out ball, showed how Australia might exploit Bumrah’s threat later in the innings. Carey cited Head’s innings as a template for success.
We saw Travis sort of counterpunch a bit. I trust our batters. We’ll find a way not only (against) Bumrah… they played a couple of other debutants who bowled well too.”, Carey further said.

Australia Look Forward to Winning the Pink Ball Test
Australia suffered a record 295-run defeat in the First Test. However, Carey stated that the team was not demotivated by that. He assured fans that the squad is united and determined to deliver a strong performance in Adelaide.
“Every batter wants to score a hundred, but cricket doesn’t always go your way,” Carey admitted. “What matters is that we’re a tight group, and everyone’s eager to contribute big runs this time.”
Australia will look to recreate the magic of their 2020 pink-ball Test win. They bowled India out for just 36 runs in that game. The Adelaide pitch, known for aiding seamers under lights, could offer Australia the perfect setting to bounce back.
“Adelaide has been a good hunting ground for us, and we’ll give it our all,” Carey said.
