Allah Ghazanfar’s Stellar Second Spell Turns the Tide for Afghanistan

In a display of resilience and skill, Afghanistan’s young offspinner Allah Ghazanfar claimed an impressive 6 for 26, guiding Afghanistan to a 92-run victory over Bangladesh in the opening ODI.

Although Ghazanfar’s first spell showed promise with a wicket, he wasn’t satisfied with his bowling, admitting that his deliveries lacked precision.

Determined to make a comeback, Ghazanfar returned in the 31st over, where his remarkable second spell saw him dismantling Bangladesh’s middle and lower order.

The young offspinner credited Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi for their continuous guidance, which played a pivotal role in his development.

Ghazanfar shared, “Rashid and Nabi always provide me with valuable advice during the match, which has a big impact on my performance.”

Ghazanfar’s success today is part of his journey from a pace bowler to a mystery spinner, initially influenced by former Afghanistan skipper Dawlat Ahmadzai.

Known for his standout performance in the Under-19 World Cup and the Shpageeza T20 League, Ghazanfar is now hailed as Afghanistan’s “new Mujeeb-ur-Rahman.”

Ghazanfar’s Growing Reputation and Bangladesh’s Struggles Against Spin

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto acknowledged Ghazanfar’s mastery, noting that Afghanistan’s spinners have always posed a challenge.

Shanto’s dismissal by Mohammad Nabi marked a turning point in the match, as Bangladesh, who were once 132 for 3, collapsed under pressure.

Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi praised Ghazanfar’s potential and added humorously, “He’s a great talent, but I did ask him why he bowled a no-ball.”
