Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has joined the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), making him the second player from India to participate in the tournament. Rayudu, who represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2023, has been enlisted as the marquee player for the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, according to ESPNcricinfo.
After his IPL stint, the 37-year-old was set to play for the Texas Super Kings, CSK’s sister franchise, in the Major Cricket League (MLC) in the USA. However, Rayudu chose to opt out of the MLC following discussions about a cooling-off period policy by the Indian cricket board. This policy aims to prevent players from engaging in overseas leagues immediately after their retirement from international cricket.
2nd Indian to play in CPL
Though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to finalize its stance on this matter, Rayudu’s inclusion in the CPL showcases his readiness to continue his cricketing journey. If Rayudu gets a chance to play in the CPL, he will become the second Indian player after Pravin Tambe to feature in the tournament.Notably, Rayudu’s experience and skillset have made him a valuable asset in T20 cricket. His decision to join the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots demonstrates his commitment to the sport and his eagerness to contribute to their campaign in the Caribbean Premier League.
