Amidst Ongoing Murder Case, Shakib Al Hasan Expected to Sign a County Deal

Next month, veteran all-rounder Shakib-al-Hasan is probably going to take a plane to the UK before rejoining the Test team for the India tour. The Surrey club has been negotiating a deal to bring the former captain of Bangladesh on board before his squad departs for India, and he is scheduled to play in a County Championship match next month.

Shakib to be seen in upcoming matches

The County Championship game between Somerset and Taunton is scheduled to begin on September 9. Shakib, who is now in Pakistan, is supposedly in possession of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the game.

If the contract goes through, the experienced all-rounder would play for Surrey next month before traveling to Chennai, where Bangladesh will play their first Test match against India on September 19, according to ESPN Cricinfo. Before hosting South Africa in October, the Bangla Tigers will play three Twenty20 international matches and two Test matches against India.

BCB wants him to continue

Shakib will play for Bangladesh, according to BCB President Faruque Ahmed, even though a Supreme Court lawyer has sent him with a court notice stating that he should not be on the team since he is connected to a murder case. “Shakib will carry on with his play.” A prominent Bengali daily Prothom Alo on Tuesday cited Ahmed as stating, “We received a legal notice regarding bringing him back and we replied to them saying this [that he will continue to play].”

“At this time, the formal complaint has been lodged and it is in its preliminary phase. Numerous procedures will follow, and we will not allow him to play until he is found guilty. Following the Pakistan series, the Bangladesh team will travel to India, and we would like him to play in that series as well. He is a player under contract with us, and we will provide him with legal support if needed,” he continued. On August 22, a murder case was filed in Bangladesh with Shakib as a defendant.
