Gulbadin Naib acted swiftly, noticing the situation. Wiaan Mulder tried to send Phehlukwayo back, but it was too late. Gulbadin had already thrown down the stumps, catching Phehlukwayo short of his ground.
The direct hit at the striker’s end left Phehlukwayo out of the crease. An appeal was made, and though the batter hesitated, he eventually walked off. There will likely be debate over this, as Phehlukwayo seemed to glance at the square leg umpire before losing balance outside the crease.
