The Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 has been delivering thrilling cricket action in its ongoing season, but it seems that some unexpected guests are also making appearances on the field. In a rather bizarre and amusing incident, a snake was spotted behind the boundary lines during Match 15 between B-Love Kandy and Jaffna Kings. This incidence became a latest cricket news.
The intriguing episode occurred at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Cameras captured the snake’s movement behind the advertising screens on the boundary during the 18th over of the second innings. The unexpected appearance of the reptile prompted the camerapersons to quickly shift their focus away from the scene. Adding a touch of humor to the situation, former South African cricketer Shaun Pollock, who was commentating on the game, quipped, “Maybe he’s come to take over the job from the camera men.”
This isn’t the first time a snake has made an appearance in this year’s LPL. In a prior match between Galle Titans and Dambulla Aura, another snake unexpectedly slithered onto the field, causing a temporary halt in the play until the groundsmen managed to remove the snake
As for the cricket action in Match 15, B-Love Kandy faced off against Jaffna Kings. B-Love Kandy set a target of 179 runs, with Mohammad Haris standing out as the top scorer with a brilliant knock of 81 runs off 51 balls. In response, Jaffna Kings encountered a challenging situation at 51/4 after 8.3 overs, but a valiant effort from Shoaib Malik (55* off 37), David Miller (24 off 16), and captain Thisara Perera (36 off 20) helped them make a comeback. Despite their efforts, Jaffna Kings fell short by nine runs, with Angelo Mathews’ remarkable bowling performance of 3/10 in 3 overs contributing significantly to B-Love Kandy’s victory. The match prediction quickly swung in the favour of them.
The unusual snake incidents have certainly added an unexpected twist to the LPL, making it an unforgettable season for both players and fans alike.
