Indian footballer Anwar Ali has been handed a four-month suspension by the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) Player Status Committee (PSC) after being found guilty of unlawfully terminating his contract with Mohun Bagan Super Giant. In addition to the suspension, Ali and his affiliated clubs, Delhi FC and East Bengal, face significant sanctions and a hefty financial penalty.
Details of the Suspension and Compensation
The AIFF PSC’s decision bars Anwar Ali from participating in official matches for four months, starting from the notification date.
The suspension comes as a result of Ali’s unjustified termination of his contract with Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
The PSC has also mandated that Anwar, Delhi FC, and East Bengal collectively pay Mohun Bagan a total compensation of Rs 12.90 crore.
This sum includes Rs 8.40 crore representing the remaining contract value, Rs 2 crore for a loan agreement with Delhi FC, and Rs 2.50 crore for damages suffered by Mohun Bagan.
This compensation is intended to cover both financial losses and investments made by the club.
Additional Sanctions and Appeal Process
In response to the violation, the AIFF PSC has imposed additional restrictions on Delhi FC and East Bengal.
Both clubs are prohibited from registering new players during the next two transfer windows.
This decision reflects the committee’s stance on ensuring that contractual agreements are upheld and to penalise parties involved in breaches.
If the Rs 12.90 crore compensation is not settled within 45 days, Mohun Bagan could face restrictions on registering new players for up to three registration periods, and Anwar’s suspension could be extended by an additional two months.
Anwar Ali and the involved clubs retain the right to appeal the decision according to the AIFF Disciplinary Code.
