Sri Lankan All-round Charith Asalanka made a remarkable contribution to Sri Lanka’s win against Pakistan in their last Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup. Colombo however, was again the victim to bad weather conditions due to which the game was reduced to a 42-over match.
A thriller for everyone to watch
The 26-year old Charith Asalanka made his team proud by lodging a 2 wicket victory on Sri Lanka’s side.
During Sri Lanka’s innings, Zaman Khan was handed over the last over which needed 6 runs of 2 balls for Sri Lanka to win. Asalanka did a remarkable job by fulfilling the required run chase.
He achieved the target by hitting a four in the second last ball and at the last ball, by running a 2 off debutant pacer Zaman Khan. The ball hit the stumps after Rizwan threw the ball to Zaman who then hit it on the stumps. However, by that time those 2 runs were already run off by Asalanka and Pathirana.
After the match on being asked about his exceptional performance, Asalanka responded by saying that he first thought Zaman’s delivery was either going to be a bouncer or yorker but it was a slow ball that made those runs possible. He further added, I wanted to finish off the game, and I can definitely rank this innings in second place in my book.
Who stands as the man of the Match?
Top order Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Mendis became Man of the Match by adding a valuable 100 for 98 balls. Kusal along with Sadeera Samarawickrama chased a 100 run partnership to beat Pakistan with the latter scoring a half century.
Sri Lanka sent Babar’s men back to their land after chasing the required target of 252/7 in 42 overs. The island nation will be now facing India in the Asia Cup finals, on Sunday.
