After his comeback ton against arch-rivals Pakistan on Monday, KL Rahul was highly praised for his formidable batting. The wicketkeeper batter endured a thigh injury during Indian Premier League, 2023, which was later operated. Hence Rahul was out of action for almost 4 months.
Making statement on international comeback
Rahul’s name was drafted the Asia Cup 2023 squad, but he did not get chance in the first two matches, against Pakistan and Nepal. The Lucknow Super Giants captain was again not in the playing 11 in Super 4s match against Pakistan.
Few moments before the match, Shreyas Iyer experienced back spasm, which paved the way for Rahul into the 11. And surely so, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He was not out with a dazzling 111, which included two sixes and twelve fours. His innings contributed towards the massive final score of 356. India , with an allround performance, thrashed pakistan with a record breaking 228 runs.
Ashwin On Rahul
One India’s best test all rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin was in all praise of KL rahul. He said “KL Rahul is giving us that stability with the bat in the middle-order.” Couple of weeks earlier, Skipper Rohit sharma expressed his concern about the middle order batting and stated that it was best executed by all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
However, Ashwin’s take on Rahul’s part in the batting order gives the fans and the team a new perspective. While explaining the role of Rahul He said, “ Batting in the middle-order is really difficult. MS Dhoni nailed that art. However, I am not at all comparing KL Rahul with MS Dhoni. Plus, he did a different role of batting at number 6/7 compared to KL Rahul”
He further added, “But I feel he is slowly mastering his role perfectly. He put a partnership with Ishan Kishan initially against Sri Lanka too. When Dunith Wellalage was in a great rhythm, KL Rahul left it alone for two deliveries. That was a very good sign. It showed us that he had a good game plan”
