Ashwin moving to Delhi Capitals, deal finalized

Ravichandran Ashwin will be seen playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. After months of speculations finally, the deal has been finalized.

Ashwin to represent Delhi Capitals

The confirmation came from the horse’s mouth on Thursday. Ness Wadia confirmed it and told PTI, “Everyone is happy with this deal. We are happy, Ashwin is happy and Delhi is happy. We were in talks with three teams but have finally come to this conclusion. We wish Ashwin the very best.” He had earlier hinted about the same when he told, “We [Ashwin and KXIP] have amicably come to a conclusion that we should part ways.”

According to the news, Punjab wanted to trade Ashwin along but the situation changed a bit after the appointment of Anil Kumble as their Director of Cricket. The veteran wanted to keep Ashwin but the man in question himself did not want to stay anymore after two unsuccessful seasons with Punjab as captain.

Suchit joins Delhi

Ashwin has been one of the consistent performers in the league since his debut in 2009. He took 125 wickets from 139 games at an excellent economy rate of 6.79 and was an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings side that had won two consecutive IPL titles in 2010 and 2011. But as a skipper, he could not deliver and failed to take Punjab to the play-offs. In all likelihood, KL Rahul will now be the new captain for Kings XI Punjab.

According to PTI, Delhi Capitals have offered KXIP left-arm spinner J Suchith and an additional sum of INR 1.5 crores as part of the exchange. The Karnataka player was signed as a replacement in IPL 2019 at his base price of INR 20 lakh. It is believed that Punjab also asked for Trent Boult but the player was not much keen. They finally settled on Suchith. Ashwin will receive INR 7.6 crores, his auction value from the IPL 2018 auction. Now the deal is subject to ratification by the IPL Governing Council.
