Dasun Shanaka Contemplating Sri Lanka’s ODI Captaincy Exit

 Asia Cup 2023 has just wrapped up a few days, ago. The whole season was a roller coaster ride. Sri Lanka faced India in the final but that was a disaster for them. They got all out only in 50 runs. After the tournament, It is heard that Dasun Shanaka is likely to step down from Sri Lanka’s ODI captaincy.

What’s the matter?

This year Asia Cup, India, and Sri Lanka met in the final. But it was a nightmare for the whole Sri Lankan squad. They were just washed out in front of Indian bowlers. Mohammed Siraj was in an absolute dreamy form. He took 6 wickets in 21 runs. Any of the Sri Lankan batters could not even stand in front of him for long. They got all out just in 50 runs. 

It was an easy target for India to name the title. Even they ended up doing that. India reached the target in 6.1 overs. With that win India took the title for the eighth time. After the Asia Cup, it is heard that Dasun Shanaka is likely to step down from the ODI captaincy ahead of the ODI World Cup. it will be a big change in Sri Lanka’s squad. It is time to see the new captain of the Sri Lankan squad.

 Shanaka’s record:

Dasun Shanaka made his ODI debut on 16th June 2016 against Ireland. Till now he played 62 ODI matches and made 1164 runs which contains 2 centuries and 3 half centuries. In ODI his highest score is 108 not out. In bowling, he has a five-wicket hall. He registered a spell of 5/43 in an ODI match

At the very first, Shanaka was appointed as T20 captain of Sri Lanka. After watching continuous achievements Sri Lankan cricket board has appointed him as ODI captain. Dasun Shanaka played 39 matches as captain of Sri Lanka. He made his captaincy debut for Sri Lanka in July in 2021 against India. Being captain he scored 593 runs and took 17 wickets. After being the captain he took the team’s performance to the next level. He won 58% of matches for Srilanka as ODI captain which contains 23 wins in 39 ODIs.
