The Pakistan men’s cricket team is out of the run for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after their below par performance in the group stage of the tournament. The well established and permanent team managed to lose a match in the Super Over by the much newer, associate team USA who debuted in the World Cup this year. As the Pakistani captain gets nitpicked by many, Australian player Usman Khawaja shares his take on Babar Azam’s role as a captain in Pakistan.
The Aussies are currently in a match for the Super Eight stage of the tournament against Pakistan’s archrivals India who have made it so far in the tournament without even 1 loss. India had defeated Pakistan in their face off on 9 June 2024.
Here’s what Usman khawaja said
The Pakistan men’s cricket team is being criticised after their premature exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. The team had lost the same tournament last time in the finals as they reached the last step to compete against England for the trophy.
Australia’s Usman Khawaja opened up about Pakistan’s woeful campaign in the ongoing T20 World Cup and gave his take on Babar Azam’s future as the white-ball captain.
“When I look from the outside, everything is changing in the Pakistan cricket team. Selection committee members, staff and players keep changing,” he said while speaking at an event in Melbourne as quoted from Geo News.
After their early dismissal from the World Cup, Babar Azam came under heavy scrutiny and questions were raised about the future of his captaincy. Usman Khawaja spoke about his take on Babar Azam’s Captaincy when asked about it.
“It’s Babar Azam’s decision to captain, if he can, he should.” He said.
Usman’s take on the India vs Australia Match
Usman, who is a test cricket star in Australia, had also recently talked about those he thinks his country’s team would win the T20 World Cup 2024. Usman said that Australia can win the tournament if they defeat India in their face off, which is on 24 June 2024.
“If Australia beats India and makes it to the semi-final, I think definitely, I think they can win. I think we’ve just got to get to the semi-final,” Khawaja told PTI Videos in an interview ahead of Australia’s last Super 8s match against India.
India And Australia are currently playing in the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in West Indies. Australia has won the toss and opted to bowl first.
