Australians Shift Focus: Fast Bowler Reveals Strategy to Regain Border-Gavaskar Trophy

With two months to go before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy kicks off, Australia is gearing up for what promises to be a fiercely competitive five-match Test series against India. Set to commence on November 23, the Australian team has opted to rest their top three fast bowlers—Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood—from the current white-ball tour in the UK. This strategic decision aims to ensure that they remain fresh and in peak condition for the upcoming Test matches.

Josh Hazlewood Discusses Team Strategy Insights:

Team India has triumphed in their last two Test series in Australia, both ending with a 2-1 scoreline, maintaining control of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since the 2014-15 season. Eager to reclaim the trophy, the World Test Champions are focused on their strategy, as revealed by Josh Hazlewood. With heightened anticipation for the upcoming series, Australia is determined to challenge India’s dominance and make a strong statement on home soil.

Josh Hazlewood said, “ The strategy is probably more focused on the newer players we haven’t played much Test cricket against, like (Yashasvi) Jaiswal and even Shubman Gill, who we’ve only faced a few times. We’ve played against Virat (Kohli), Rohit (Sharma), and others for years, so we know what to do. The plan doesn’t really change that often. It’s about the basics; doing them well and for a long time.”

Hazlewood emphasized that Australia typically focuses on mastering the fundamentals of their game. By adhering to their core principles, the team aims to enhance their performance and increase their chances of success against India in the upcoming series. He further said, “ We usually find that, 9 out of 10 times, Test cricket comes back to that Plan A. You adapt to conditions and change things throughout the day or innings, but most of the time, it’s about executing that plan.”

India’s Current Series:

India is presently engaged in a two-Test series against Bangladesh, followed by a three-Test series against New Zealand set for October-November. The Indian team will then embark on their tour of Australia, starting in Perth, continuing with a day-night match in Adelaide, and concluding with a third Test in Brisbane.

This series marks the final phase of the current World Test Championship cycle, as India strives to reach their third consecutive final, which is scheduled to take place at Lord’s next year. The team is keen to maintain their strong performance leading into this crucial series.
