The India vs Australia match was held in the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in West Indies. Australia might get ruled out of the tournament after losing 2 consecutive matches against Afghanistan and India respectively. It was Australia who won the toss and opted to bowl first. India scored 205/5 in their batting innings while Australia got restricted at 181/7.
Axar Patel wins “Fielder of the Match” medal
Axar Patel won the fielder of the match medal in the Indian dressing room after the team’s victory. The second innings of the India vs Australia match was thrilling for both India and Australia fans. While Rohit Sharma‘s power hitting in the first innings had reassured the Indian team, Australia batsmen Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head were tough on the field.
It was when Kuldeep Yadav was bowling that Mitchell Marsh tried to hit a boundary and bowling all rounder Axar Patel came to rescue. Axar jumped off his position and took a catch with one hand, leading Marsh off the pitch.
Axar’s catch was widely praised online as well as on the field. The young player showed skilled athleticism in his fielding. Patel also claimed the wicket of Marcus Stoinis while bowling as Hardik Pandya took the catch.
Bowling coach T Dilip on India win and Axar’s catch
In the short ceremony for awarding Axar as the fielder of the match, Indian bowling coach T. Dilip praised the phenomenal effort the men in blue made.
“Phenomenal effort, boys. Everyone, well done. When it comes to fielding in the Caribbean, we will always test our metal… from boundary to infield we covered every gap, but the masterpiece was the commitment for every catch that we have done.” Dilil said“
With this kind of determination, whether it’s adjusting to the wind or speed in the outfield, we were top-notch. Lastly, we clearly show that we are here to dominate,” he added.
India will be facing off against England in the semifinals for the tournament.
