The T20 World Cup is coming close. All the teams are preparing hard for the upcoming global T20 tournament. The tournament is all set to start from June 1. The West Indies and the USA are arranging the tournament together. At this moment, Bangladesh plans to host Zimbabwe for a five-game T20I series in May, aiming to prepare for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh’s Series Against Zimbabwe:
Bangladesh is gearing up to host Zimbabwe for an exciting five-match T20I series in May, as they set their sights on the 2024 T20 World Cup. The action kicks off with the first three T20Is scheduled to take place in Chattogram, followed by the final two matches in Dhaka.
In addition to the T20Is, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) revealed in a statement that the anticipated two-match Test series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, initially planned for this year, will now be postponed until 2025. This delay marks a significant change, especially considering that it will be the first Test series between the two teams since 2018.
Zimbabwe faced disappointment as they missed out on qualification for the 2024 T20 World Cup, while Uganda and Namibia secured their spots from the Africa qualifiers. This setback adds to their recent struggles, having also failed to qualify for the 2019 and 2023 ODI World Cups. However, there’s hope on the horizon as Zimbabwe is set to co-host the 2027 ODI World Cup, offering them a chance to showcase their cricketing prowess on a global stage.
Last Meeting and T20 World Cup 2024 Journey:
The most recent bilateral T20I series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe took place in July 2022 in Harare, resulting in a 2-1 victory for Zimbabwe. Looking at their overall head-to-head record in the shortest format, Bangladesh maintains a dominant 13-7 win-loss ratio against Zimbabwe. This history underscores Bangladesh’s proficiency in T20 cricket, although Zimbabwe’s occasional triumphs, like the series win in 2022, highlight their potential to challenge and upset higher-ranked opponents, adding an element of unpredictability to future encounters between the two teams.
Bangladesh kicks off their T20 World Cup journey on June 8 against Sri Lanka in Dallas. They belong to Group D, which includes Nepal, the Netherlands, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. This pivotal match marks the beginning of Bangladesh’s quest for success in the tournament, as they aim to navigate through a challenging group stage and make their mark on the global cricketing stage.
