Bangladesh has suffered a significant loss ahead of the lone Test against Afghanistan as their great opener Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the lone Test series. Iqbal suffered from lower back pain.On June 14, the lone Test will start at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
The batter was being watched after for his back issue, according to the team management, and efforts were being made to increase the lower back’s functional capacity. Tamim has been experiencing stiffness in addition to back pain. Therefore, it seems quite unlikely that the Bangla hitter will play five days of red-ball cricket considering his current state.
Bangladesh Physiotherapist said
According to a statement issued by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the physiotherapist for the Bangladesh squad, Muzadded Alpha Sany:
Tamim has been experiencing lower back pain which has troubled him from time to time. Our treatment and procedures focused on reducing the pain and improving his functional ability but unfortunately, his condition hasn’t improved sufficiently for him to play the Test match”.
“He has felt stiffness and pain while batting and fielding in training and has not been able to complete the physical preparation required to play for five days,” he further added.
Notably, the Southpaw missed the match versus India the previous season due to a groyne injury. After that, he came back for the ODI matchup with England. Iqbal also participated in the home and away ODI series with Ireland. The hosts are suffering a setback as Shakib Al Hasan, their normal Test captain, was forced to withdraw due to a finger injury. Litton Das will therefore serve as the Bangla team’s captain. Rashid Khan, the main spinner for the Afghan team, has already been ruled out.
In terms of the final Tests played by both teams, Afghanistan’s final match was against Zimbabwe in March 2021. It’s important to note that out of six games played against the Bangla Tigers, the Afghan team only prevailed once.
