Last year, on the World Cup stage, there were a lot of memories that created. Along with some big names, a lot of non-familiar faces stunned the cricket fans with their performances. Along with all the big names, the Netherlands players caught the attention. Especially the Dutch player Bas de Leede caught the attention. With their impactful performance, he has been awarded the ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year for 2023.

A Special Award to Leede:

Dutch bowler Bas de De Leede clinches the ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year, recognized for his outstanding contributions at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier and the main tournament in India. Adding his name to the list alongside two-time winner Ryan ten Doeschate, it’s a Dutch double triumph.

After receiving the award, the Dutch bowler expressed his feelings. He said, “I’m accepting the award, but I think most of the Dutch boys would have been in contention for it. So it’s a cool way to finish off a great year for The Netherlands. Looking at my performances, it’s probably the best I’ve played for Holland, which I’m very thankful for. I’m happy to have put in some performances to make that happen there.”

Exceptional Performances:

In a cricketing feat seldom achieved, de Leede etched his name in July 2023. The Dutch all-rounder showcased his brilliance in a pivotal Cricket World Cup Qualifier clash against Scotland, achieving the rare milestone of scoring a century and claiming a five-wicket haul in a One Day International.

Initially entrusted with the ball, de Leede left an indelible mark by dismissing key Scottish batsmen – Richie Berrington, George Munsey, and Chris McBride. In a dramatic turn of events during the death overs, he bagged all-rounders Chris Greaves and Mark Watt in consecutive deliveries.

Facing the challenge of chasing down the target within 44 overs to surpass Scotland’s net run rate, de Leede found himself in a tight spot with the bat. Initially struggling at 19 runs from 30 balls, he shifted gears and displayed an extraordinary performance, concluding with a remarkable 123 from 92 deliveries. Despite being run out before reaching the target, de Leede’s outstanding effort paved the way for his teammates to easily secure the final two runs, ensuring a successful outcome for the team.
