Basit Ali Praises Mayank Yadav’s Impressive India T20I Debut Against Bangladesh

Indian cricket has seen a steady influx of talented young fast bowlers, and Mayank Yadav is the latest to grab attention with a stellar international debut. The 22-year-old pacer impressed everyone during India’s T20I win over Bangladesh, consistently bowling at over 140 kmph and keeping the batters in check. Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali was particularly struck by Yadav’s potential, predicting a bright future for the youngster, including a spot in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) squad if he remains fit.

Mayank Yadav’s Impressive Debut

In his debut T20I, Yadav bowled a tight, disciplined spell, conceding just 21 runs in his four overs and picking up a wicket.

What stood out most was his speed, consistently hitting the 140 kmph mark in 17 out of his 24 balls, even touching 149.9 kmph at one point.

Though he didn’t breach the 150 kmph mark, his control and accuracy were praised by fans and experts alike.

Ali, watching closely, noted that Bangladesh’s batters were unable to confidently step forward against Yadav, a testament to the fear he instilled with his pace.

It was a dream debut for Mayank Yadav. He started off with a maiden and even clocked 149.9 kmph. He has come from an injury, which is why his speeds have not been 157 or 158. Just imagine if he had been given the new ball instead of Hardik Pandya. He instilled fear. If you guys saw the match, batters did not play him on the front foot. I hope that he remains fit and goes to Australia,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.

Call for a Border-Gavaskar Trophy Role

Basit Ali went further, suggesting that Yadav’s future could lie not just in T20 cricket but also in the longer format.

“If he remains fit, he should go to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” Ali said, emphasising the importance of maintaining Yadav’s fitness.

Ali explained that Yadav’s ability to generate such high speeds despite coming back from an injury hinted at his massive potential.

Ali’s suggestion is especially intriguing considering Yadav’s recovery from a back injury during IPL 2024.

The selectors, impressed by his pre-injury form and dedication, fast-tracked him into the Indian squad, and his debut performance has now sparked conversations about his future role in Indian cricket.
