“Bazball approach against a world-class performer in Nathan Lyon”: Michael Vaughan lauds England batters

Based on the first Test of the ongoing Ashes series, it can be said that England’s ‘Bazball’ style has not disappointed its fans. England skipper Ben Stokes shown great bravery by declaring their innings on Day 1 with 393 runs on the board, while with the ball, he displayed tactical brilliance by sending a well-set Usman Khawaja back to the pavilion.

The host team eventually took a seven-run lead in the first innings, and former cricketer Michael Vaughan believes that if England sets a target of 250 runs or more, they will be in a strong position to win the first match of the series.

Vaughan also mentioned that the Three Lions’ response to Australia spin wizard Nathan Lyon on Day 4 will be interesting to watch. He believes the struggle against Lyon will be crucial for the home squad and will ultimately determine the outcome of the match.

Michael Vaughan said

“I’d rather be in England’s position. This Bazball approach against a world-class performer in Nathan Lyon. There has also been a little bit more for the seamers. The key is how England play Lyon. If they get over 250 it will be a very hard chase for Australia,” Vaughan was quoted as saying by India Today.

Australia was under immense pressure after Broad’s double whammy dismissal of David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne on Day 2. Especially when Steve Smith returned to the pavilion.

However, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, and Alex Carey rallied back to keep Australia in the game. On Day 3, though, English pacers showed a lot of potential and eventually got the better of the visiting team, dismissing them for 386 runs. Vaughan praised the pacers, believing that Broad, Anderson, and Robinson performed admirably at Edgbaston.

“Broad, Anderson and Robinson have brought England back into the contest. There was a stage earlier this morning where Australia were well on their way to a 50-60 run lead,” Vaughan added.
