BCB Requests Guarantee from Bangladesh Army for Hosting Women’s T20 World Cup

THE SECURITY CONCERNS OF PLAYERS

Dhaka, The BCB (Bangladesh cricket board) asked for security assurance from the interim government for conducting the women’s T20 World Cup, which is going to be held on October 3 – 20. Because of the political unrest in the country the security of other teams is the major concern of ICC. The venues for the women’s T20 World Cup are in the Bangladesh cities Sylhet and Mirpur.

From 27 September the warm up round is set to begin for the women’s T20 World Cup. Currently ICC is monitoring the situation in the country after the brutal protest against the government which caused hundreds of deaths and this led to the resignation and fleeing of former PM Sheikh Hasina.

The current BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon also had to leave the country with a few other board directors, it was believed that they were connected with the former PM’s party Awami league.

BCB SEEKS ARMY’S ASSURANCE FOR SECURITY

According to cricbuzz, the board has written to army chief of staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman seeking security assurance to organize the tournament.

BCB umpiring committee chairman Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu said, “We are trying to host the tournament”.

He also added, ” To be honest, there are not too many of us presidents in the country and on Thursday we sent a letter to the army chief regarding assurance about the security of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup as we have only two months in hand. ICC communicated with us two days back and we replied that we will come back to them shortly and after getting assurance from the army we will inform the ICC”.

However, a few other board members and directors are still in Dhaka and they are hoping that the tournament will not be shifted from the country. But on the other hand there are some expectations that ICC would opt to change the host of the tournament within a similar time zone, which makes India UAE and Sri Lanka as considerable choices to host the tournament.
