BCCI awarded cash prizes for team India for the historic Test series win in Australia

Team India scripted history by winning the first ever Test series in Australia. In the 71 years of India’s cricketing history, it was the first occasion that the visitors were able to conquer the fierce land of Australia. A scoreline of 2-1 suggests a hard-fought series. But India was dominant and it could well have been 3-1 had the rain not washed out the last day of the SCG Test.

The celebrations went late into the night for the visitors. Along with them, the whole of India was ecstatic with the victory. To add icing to the cake, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced cash prizes for the team.

The players who were a part of the playing XIs will get a prize equivalent to the match fees i.e. INR 15 Lakh per match. Also, the players who were not in the line-up will get INR 7.5 Lakh per match. Additionally, the coaches will get INR 25 Lakh. And the support staff will be given bonuses equivalent to the pro rata salary/professional fee.

As per the announcement, the likes of Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami will earn INR 60 Lakh as they were regulars in all the 4 Tests.

A big victory for team India

Winning a Test series in Australia is a massive achievement. The skipper Virat Kohli had termed it more emotional than his World Cup victory in 2011. On the other hand, the coach Ravi Shastri had mentioned that it was more special than India’s triumph in the 1983 World Cup. Now that BCCI is set to award the players with the cash prizes, it just goes to show how important Test cricket is for team India as well as for the cricket board.
