The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) has always come up with some of the best initiatives each time during the Indian Premier League (IPL). During the IPL playoffs and final match earlier this year, BCCI, in collaboration with the TATA Groups, announced a unique initiative aimed at increasing green cover in the country.Â
What is this initiative?
Popularly known as the Green Dot Balls initiative, this campaign is aimed at planting trees for every dot ball during the IPL 2023. The Secretary of BCCI announced that for each dot ball played in the IPL playoffs and final, a total of 500 trees will be planted across the nation.
This announcement was made by BCCI earlier this year, and now it has been successfully put into effect as the total number of trees decided to be planted has been sown across the four states. A total of 1,47,000 trees have been planted by the board in four Indian states, mainly Kerala, Karnataka, Assam, and Gujarat. Ahead of this move, netizens are appreciating BCCI’s efforts to help make a difference and fight climate change.
Tallying the number of trees for each dot ball
The total number of dot balls played in the IPL playoffs and the final was 294. The BCCI revealed that in the first qualifier match between the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, there were 84 dot balls, which means 42,000 trees. During the second eliminator match between the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, the target remained at 48,000 trees owing to 96 dot balls.
In the second qualifier at Ahmedabad, which saw the clash of the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, there were 67 dot balls, i.e., 26,500 trees. And during the final match between the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, 22,500 trees will be planted, thanks to 45 dot balls. In total, 294 dot balls were played, which gave a target of 1,47,000 trees to be planted across the nation, which has been successfully achieved.
