The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a significant announcement. Starting Friday, fans will be allowed to watch India’s training sessions at the WACA ground in Perth. This decision comes as the team prepares for their warm-up game against India A. The sessions will run from Friday to Sunday and will include match simulations.
Clarification on Media Reports
This announcement contrasts sharply with an Australian media report suggesting that India’s practice sessions would be closed to the public. On Wednesday, The Australian reported that construction workers refurbishing the WACA received strict instructions. They were told not to watch, photograph, or use drones during India’s net sessions.
According to the report, an email from Adam Sauzier of ADCO Constructions outlined these restrictions. It stated, “Not only has the public been barred from watching India train, even those working in the precinct are under strict instructions not to take a peek.”
However, BCCI officials denied sending any such communication. A source told PTI, “Neither from India nor from India A has such a request gone out demanding closed-door net sessions. The practice session is open to all. The Indian and Australian media can watch and cover for as long as they want.”
Intra-Squad Warm-Up Match Details
India’s intra-squad warm-up match will take place from November 15 to 17 at the WACA. This game is crucial as it allows players to acclimatize to local conditions ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. The first Test is scheduled for November 22 at Optus Stadium.

A source close to BCCI explained that this practice would not follow traditional match rules. “It will be match simulation where any number of batters can bat,” they said. Bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep are expected to bowl to top-order batsmen such as Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant.
Indian Players Arrive in Perth
India A players have already reported in Perth and are set to participate in the intra-squad match. The management aims for high-quality practice sessions similar to those held during previous tours, including during COVID-19 restrictions when India traveled to England.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is vital for India as they seek a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. To secure their place, India must achieve a 4-0 series victory against Australia. This outcome would ensure they qualify without relying on results from other teams.
