BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Congratulates Virat Kohli on Reaching 27,000 International Runs

Virat Kohli has once again etched his name in cricketing history by surpassing the monumental milestone of 27,000 international runs during the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh. This achievement has drawn widespread admiration, including praise from BCCI Secretary and ICC Chairman Jay Shah.

Kohli’s Remarkable Achievement

Kohli reached this impressive milestone while batting at No. 5 for India during the fourth day of the second Test at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. He took the attack to the Bangladesh bowlers, showcasing his trademark aggressive style and scoring freely. The 35-year-old cricketer accomplished this feat in his 535th match (594 innings), joining an elite group of only three other players—Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, and Ricky Ponting—who have crossed the 27,000-run mark in international cricket.

Tendulkar holds the record for the most runs in international cricket with 34,357 runs, while Sangakkara and Ponting follow with 28,016 and 27,483 runs, respectively. Notably, Kohli achieved this milestone in 29 innings fewer than Tendulkar, who reached it in 623 innings.

Jay Shah’s Heartfelt Congratulations

Upon Kohli’s historic achievement, Jay Shah took to social media platform X to express his admiration. “Another towering milestone in the illustrious career of Virat Kohli as he crosses 27,000 international runs! Your passion, consistency, and hunger to excel are inspiring to the cricketing world. Congratulations @imVkohli, the journey continues to inspire millions,” Shah tweeted.

India’s Strategy Against Bangladesh

With two days of play washed out due to rain in Kanpur, Team India aimed to force a result in this crucial Test match. Prioritizing their qualification for the World Test Championship (WTC), India adopted an aggressive approach against the Bangladesh bowling attack. Kohli contributed a valuable 47 runs off 35 balls, before being dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan.

A notable moment during his innings was a mix-up with Rishabh Pant that could have ended poorly for India; however, luck was on their side as the Bangladeshi bowler failed to hit the stumps.

Kohli’s dismissal came just three runs short of a half-century, but his innings helped set up a strong position for India. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were instrumental in India’s innings, scoring 72 off 52 balls and 68 off 43 balls, respectively.

For Bangladesh, veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan claimed four wickets for 78 runs, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz also shone with figures of 4/41.
