Bilal Khan Shatters Records: Becomes Fastest Bowler to 100 ODI Wickets

Oman’s Bilal Khan has set a new benchmark in international cricket by becoming the fastest bowler to achieve 100 wickets in ODIs. The milestone was reached during an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match against Namibia, held in Dundee on July 24.

Khan, a 37-year-old left-arm medium pacer, achieved this feat by dismissing three batters for 50 runs in his 10-over spell. This performance took his total to 101 wickets in just 49 ODIs, surpassing the previous record held by Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi, who took 51 matches to reach the same milestone.

Khan’s achievement was acknowledged during the match, with Afridi’s record being mentioned as a significant milestone in the game. Afridi had set the record during the ODI World Cup 2023 match between Pakistan and Bangladesh on October 31.

The record for the fastest to 100 wickets in ODIs overall is held by Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane, who achieved this in just 42 matches, followed by Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan with 44 matches. Khan now stands third, ahead of Afridi and Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who took 52 matches.
