Chandika Hathurusingha to Continue as Bangladesh Coach Amid Speculation, Confirms BCB

Chandika Hathurusingha’s position as Bangladesh’s head coach has been a topic of much speculation, especially after Faruque Ahmed’s recent appointment as president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Despite doubts, Hathurusingha led Bangladesh to a historic Test series victory against Pakistan earlier this week, marking a significant achievement for the team.

Faruque Ahmed, who represented Bangladesh in seven ODIs between 1988 and 1999, took over as BCB president last month. He had previously expressed reservations about Hathurusingha’s coaching style and confirmed that his opinion hasn’t changed. However, according to BCB director Nazmul Abedin, Hathurusingha is still in the team’s plans and will lead the squad during their upcoming tour of India.

“The head coach will come, and he will be here in Bangladesh (to guide the team against India),” Nazmul told Cricbuzz.

Although Hathurusingha reportedly wanted to meet with the BCB hierarchy, he left Bangladesh shortly after returning from the Pakistan tour. He is expected to return on September 12 to resume his role.

“Shakib will come to India from England to play. For now we know this much and we want to keep it that way. There is no injury problem as far as I know. Hopefully the whole team will be available. Shakib has gone to play County and I am hoping everyone else will be available. From September 9, the whole team is expected to practice in full swing,” he added.

Nazmul also confirmed that Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, currently playing county cricket for Surrey in England, will directly join the team in India. The Bangladesh squad is set to begin their preparations on Monday, September 9.
