Chris Lynn does not approve of the idea of hosting the T20 World Cup this year in Australia. He thinks that it will be a logistical nightmare to progress with the same because of the pandemic.
The future of T20 World Cup
Amid the threat of the COVID-19, the fate of T20 men’s World Cup 2020 is doubtful right now. Last week the global body of cricket said that the plan is still on and according to a source the ICC will take a call on the same in August. The men’s version is scheduled for October and November this year and Australia is about to host the event. But the country’s border will be locked till the end of September. In that case, even everything gets normal, if 15 days will be enough to host such a showpiece event or not that is also a matter of concern.
Cricket Australia in the meantime assured that it is also planning for the tournament to start in October. But their Chief Executive Kevin Roberts also mentioned last week how the entire international schedule in 2020 is messed up due to the pandemic.
Lynn on T20 World Cup
Chris Lynn who represented Australia in 18 T20I matches said that it would not be easy to host the tournament amid such chaos and would be a logistical issue. He clearly gave his opinion of hosting the tournament in the scheduled time in interaction with Fox Sports, “My personal opinion is no. Obviously we’re praying for it to go ahead but we’ve just got to play what’s in front of us.” He added, “Having teams come from all over the world is going to be a logistical nightmare. Hotels, travel, keeping the teams in the hotels for a number of weeks before the tournament is going to be tough work moving forward.”
He also shared his opinion on the financial crisis the Cricket Australia is going through. Regarding the pay cuts of the players, he said, “No-one likes to take pay cuts but I think for the longevity of the game you’ve got to be realistic. It is a tough one, but if it means that the BBL is no longer going ahead because the players want to take full pay then I believe that’s ridiculous. So, yes, we have to come to an understanding to make sure the BBL goes ahead.”
