In the first match of the league, Mumbai met Gujarat Titans. Both teams played their first match in that fixture. Despite MI bowlers played well in the match, Gujarat batters’ excellence took the game away. In that match, MI bowler Gerald Coetzee played well. He took two crucial wickets of Azmatullah Omarzai and Rahul Tewatia by just conceding only 27 runs. His strike rate is 6.75.
While talking about the first match experience, Coetzee said, “Really enjoyed it (first game), had a great time. It (the experience of playing in the World Cup) helped me in understanding the conditions better, got a good grasp of the conditions.”
Praising Bumrah and learning from the Defeat:
Jasprit Bumrah is one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the game. In the first match against Gujarat Titans, Bumrah showcased his excellence. He took 3 wickets only in 14 runs with an economy rate of 3.50. While praising him, Coetzee said, “He (Bumrah) is such a great quality bowler, like to learn a lot of things from him. He’s experienced, probably one of the best in the world.”
Mumbai Indians started their IPL 2024 campaign with a loss. But they are all geared up to bounce back. While talking about the defeat, Coetzee said, “Will take the confidence from that (Gujarat) game, but you also know every game, every ball is a new ball. So you appreciate that, but you move forward and start on a new page.”
