The Major League Cricket 2024 is going on in the USA, with popular players from different nations joining in the play. The tournament started on 5 July, 2024, the day after USA celebrated its independence and will go on until 28 July. While the season is midway, Australia‘s star cricketer Pat Cummins is set to join San Francisco Unicorns in MLC.
Cummins signed a four-year deal with the franchise. The 31-year-old has mainly played in the IPL among overseas T20 leagues and has been absent from Australia’s Big Bash League since the 2018–19 season due to his international commitments.
Cummins joins the San Francisco Unicorns midway during the MLC
Pat Cummins is set to return to the USA for the MLC 2024. Cummins played the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies for Australia. Cummins’ arrival comes as Sherfane Rutherford departs. The hard-hitting West Indies allrounder, who has not participated in any of the Unicorns’ matches this season, will miss the rest of the Major League Cricket (MLC) due to a bereavement in his family.
This change marks a significant shift for the team, which hopes Cummins will fill the gap left by Rutherford’s absence.
Other teams in the MLC are also experiencing roster changes. Ottneil Baartman will replace Gerald Coetzee in the Texas Super Kings. Gerald is sidelined due to an injury.
Baartman’s inclusion is to bolster the team’s bowling attack as they navigate through the remainder of the season. Coetzee’s injury has been a setback, but the team is optimistic about Baartman’s potential contributions.
Similarly, the Seattle Orcas have made a key substitution, with Lungi Ngidi taking over from Wayne Parnell, who withdrew from the tournament.
Ngidi’s addition is a strategic move to strengthen the Orcas’ lineup. Parnell’s withdrawal required a swift response, and the team believes Ngidi’s experience and skills will be crucial in maintaining their competitive edge as they advance in the MLC.
San Francisco Unicorns look for a fate change
Pat Cummins’ arrival in the team is expected to mark the comeback for the San Francisco Unicorns. The Unicorns have won just one of their three games this year, and they will benefit greatly from the addition of Cummins.
Known for his impressive performances, Cummins made history by securing back-to-back hat-tricks at the T20 World Cup. Before that, he led Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL final.
His experience and skill will help provide a much-needed boost to the team. Sun Risers Hyderabad got to the IPL 2024 finals but lost the season to Kolkata Knight Riders.
Cummins brings a wealth of experience, having played 151 T20 matches and taken 172 wickets with an average of 26.66 and an economy rate of 8.11.
His consistent performance in T20 cricket makes him a valuable asset for the Unicorns. The team hopes his presence will enhance their bowling attack and improve their standings as the season progresses.
