Sunil Gavaskar, the iconic former captain of India, celebrated his 75th birthday on July 10, 2024. Renowned for his fearless batting style and impeccable technique, Gavaskar reshaped Indian cricket by confronting formidable bowling attacks during his era. His debut series against the West Indies in 1971, where he amassed a record-breaking 774 runs, showcased his dominance on the pitch. As one of the greatest batters in cricket history, he became the first player to reach the milestone of 10,000 Test runs.
Affectionately known as ‘Sunny’ and ‘Little Master’, Gavaskar played a pivotal role in India’s historic 1983 World Cup victory. In his illustrious career, Gavaskar played 125 Test matches, accumulating 10,122 runs with a highest score of 236. He also featured in 108 ODIs for India, scoring 3,092 runs. His achievement of being the first batsman to reach 10,000 Test runs solidified his legacy as a true legend of the sport.

On this special occasion, the Board of Control for Cricket in India wishes Sunil Gavaskar on his 75th birthday. They wrote, “1983 World Cup-winner, 233 intl. Games. 13,214 intl. Runs.
