Match 27 of the ICC Cricket World Cup is underway with the second innings being played between Australia and New Zealand. The clash between these top contending teams is quite important to decide the fate of other teams looming struggling to finish anywhere above the 5th position on the leaderboard. The match is being played at the scenic Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala and with New Zealand having won the toss, the Kiwis opted to field first.
As the Aussies batted first, five-time World Cup champions Australia went on to amass a massive total of 388. It is quite a high total for the Black Caps to score following they have to chase the massive target. With the beginning of the second innings, New Zealand yet again showed up with their masterful chasing abilities as they have already scored 120+ runs at 16 overs with 2 wickets down.
A Stunner by
Starc
Just as New Zealand’s top performing batsman Devon Conway was off to a rampage at 28 runs off 17 deliveries, Australian batsman Mitchell Starc provided the much-needed breakthrough for the team by taking a mind-blowing catch of Devon Conway. At the 8th over, Josh Hazlewood bowled a fine delivery to Conway who guided it towards fine leg and got caught by Starc. Mitchell Starc effortlessly leaped forward and stretched to take the brilliant catch dismissing Conway for 28 runs.
Hazlewood’s second breakthrough
With Devon Conway dismissed, Josh Hazlewood didn’t keep calm and went ahead to take Will Young’s wicket. Hazlewood dismissed both the openers within the two overs he bowled at the 8th and 10th over respectively. To dismiss Young, he bowled a back length delivery causing some extra bounce which touched the bat’s outer edge and got straight to Mitchell Starc yet again.
It is going to be worthwhile with the pace the Black Caps have been chasing the massive target delivered by the Aussies and see which top ranked team will emerge victorious in the nail-biting thriller. While New Zealand will face another top tier team South Africa on November 1, Australia will take on England on November 4.
