CSA figuring out how to play effective role in BLM movement

Cricket South Africa will work on their role in the Black Lives Matter movement in future. It will figure out in coming days how it can add value to the same when competitive cricket returns to South Africa.

Ngidi supports BML movement

South Africa cricket team has cricketers from different colours which give a very strong place to the team to play a role in the movement. Lungi Ngidi already showed his support to the same. The ongoing Test series in the UK between West Indies and England have also seen the players sporting a logo on their collars in support of the movement. They on the beginning of the first match also paid ‘One Knee’ tribute.

Now Cricket South Africa Director Graeme Smith said that it would be important for all in future to come forward in the same. He also praised what Ngidi opined in an online press conference.

Graeme Smith says

The Director of Cricket of CSA and former cricketer Graeme Smith said, “We are very aware of what’s going on around the world and of our role at CSA [Cricket South Africa].” He further added, “Lungi answered it very well when he said we are all in our own little pockets, and I think it’s important that in the future we all come together and figure out how we can play our role in the BLM movement; how we can be effective in doing that.”

He told that the three-team tournament scheduled to be held on Mandela Day would CSA’s first occasion with the BLM movement. “My belief in these things is that it’s important to have buy-in and that of everyone invested in it as well, and I have no doubt that will be the case. But the discussion in each team environment and as CSA about how we handle it going forward is important. We do have the 3TC approaching on Mandela Day, where we are doing a lot for charity, and that will be our first occasion with the BLM movement. But as far as our iconic men’s and women’s teams are concerned there needs to be discussion.”
