Team India, CSK, and Mumbai pacer Tushar Deshpande recently underwent ankle surgery in London after missing the second round of the Duleep Trophy. The right-arm bowler shared the news of his successful operation through a heartfelt social media post, expressing relief and gratitude for the support he received from fans and loved ones.
Successful Surgery and Recovery Journey
In his post, Deshpande stated, “This post comes as an update about my ankle surgery which was done yesterday and went very well. It is a great relief as I was dealing with it for quite a long time. I am very grateful to my family, friends, and all my fans for the well wishes, love, and trust they have shown towards me. Here on, I start my journey to recover better than before and come back stronger.”
Deshpande’s surgery comes at a crucial time as he was left out of Mumbai’s 30-man probable list for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season due to his injury. The pacer made his international debut during India’s tour of Zimbabwe in July 2024 and has since shown promise on the field.
Impressive Performance in Domestic Cricket
During the 2023-24 season, Tushar Deshpande played a pivotal role in helping Mumbai clinch their record-extending 43rd Ranji Trophy title. He claimed an impressive 15 wickets in just five matches, showcasing his talent and potential as a key player for the team.
As defending champions, Mumbai is set to kick off their Ranji Trophy campaign against Baroda in Vadodara on October 11. Deshpande’s absence will be felt, but his commitment to recovery indicates he aims to return stronger for future matches.

Journey in the IPL
Tushar Deshpande was acquired by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the IPL 2022 mega auction for ₹20 lakhs. Although he only featured in two matches that season, he significantly improved his performance in 2023, claiming 21 wickets in 16 games and playing a crucial role in CSK’s fifth IPL title victory.
Continuing his upward trajectory, Deshpande took 17 wickets in 13 matches during IPL 2024 while maintaining an economy rate of 8.83. His consistent performances earned him a national call-up for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe earlier this year, where he took two wickets in two matches.
