Dale Steyn, the veteran will be seen in the upcoming Big Bash League. Steyn signed for the Melbourne Stars for a short stint in the upcoming Big Bash League.
Steyn to be featured in next BBL
After retiring from Test cricket Dale Steyn, also missed out on playing the ICC World Cup 2019 due to a shoulder injury. But representing the country in the shorter formats still remains his goal. With the shorter formats of the game, he sees a chance of the same especially with the T20 World Cup scheduled for 2020 in Australia. To attain his goal he wants to be completely fit and for the same, he went for a deal with the BBL franchise, Melbourne Stars. He would be featured in the first six games of the upcoming BBL as cleared by the Cricket South Africa.
Steyn, talking about the same mentioned how he always wanted to play in BBL but national duty kept him away.“It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a while, play Big Bash. Unfortunately representing the Proteas for the bulk of my career over Christmas time we’ve always got Test matches on, the Boxing Day and New Year’s Test matches. So I haven’t been available. But since retiring from Test cricket, it’s opened up a little window for me while the Proteas play red-ball cricket.”
Steyn eyes upcoming T20 WC
He further added that CSA does the right job by no letting player to go as national duty gets priority. But now since he is not available for the longer format, he has been allowed to play the league. “Knowing that I’m not available for the Tests, wanting to keep me fit, and also having one eye on the Twenty20 World Cup at the backend of next year, they probably felt like it was a good call. Which is great because it keeps me in the running for that World Cup. If I can go over to Australia and get some more experience in those conditions, that could be beneficial.”
But his involvement in the competition will be limited as South Africa might need Steyn for preparation ahead of the series against England.
