Dale Steyn’s Monsoon Misadventure:  India vs. Netherlands Match Washed Away

The World Cup extravaganza is set to start. The tournament is ready to be staged on October 5. England and New Zealand will face each other in the inaugural match. This time India is going to host this prestigious tournament. Fans, all across the globe are excited to cheer their team. All teams are almost prepared. The last time preparations are going on. At this time, all teams are playing warm-up games. This is last the rehearsal for the biggest competition.

Dale Steyn’s Instagram story:

On October 3, the India vs. Netherlands warm-up match was scheduled to happen at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. But unfortunately, that has been abandoned because of the heavy rain. Former South African bowling sensation, Dale Steyn took his social media handle to share updates. In his Instagram story, he posted photos of the waterlogged street of Thiruvananthapuram. That story caught my attention.

The Rain biased warm-ups at Thiruvananthapuram:

The biggest competition in cricket is yet to start. All teams are getting prepared. They are playing warm-up matches against each other. But the biggest terror of these matches is rain. Several matches have been called off due to rain. On October 3, the India vs. Netherlands warm-up match was scheduled to happen. But it is washed out because of rainfall. At first, when the rain stopped and the covers were removed, it felt like the match could happen. But at last, it was called off.

The first warm-up match of India also got canceled because of the rain. India was about to play their first warm-up match against England at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. But it was also abandoned. Thiruvananthapuram has failed to arrange the warm-up matches. On September 29, the South Africa vs. Afghanistan match was scheduled to happen at the Greenfield Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. That was washed out completely.

In the second match, Australia faced Netherlands at that stadium. Overs were reduced from 50 to 23 because of the rainfall. However, the match ended with some results. On October 2, New Zealand faced South Africa here again. The match was decided by the DLS method.

The World Cup is starting from October 5. England and New Zealand will be locking horns in the first match. India will start their World Cup journey from October 8. Their first opponent will be Australia. Both teams played a three-match ODI series just before this tournament on Indian soil. It will be helpful for them. Right now India is in a good for. Winning the Asia Cup and the series against Australia boosted their confidence before the World Cup.
