The England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir is playing his first match against India and took the spotlight with his bowling magic in the first innings. Though his favourite number is 13, he revealed the reason for choosing 67 as his jersey number.
He said, “The reason, is that 13 is my favourite number and with the Lions they couldn’t give me 13. So I went with 67 [because] six plus seven equals 13″.
He also mentioned how England’s best bowler James Anderson inspired him in his career and also added that 100 players made their debut for England between him and Anderson.
He mentioned, “Jimmy is cap 613, I’m cap 713 so there’s a hundred caps between us. He’s an incredible lad, the experience is crazy and having Rooty out there helps a lot as well”.

England’s off-spinner Shoaib Bashir made an amazing debut in Vizag. With his exceptional bowling performance, England restricted India to a score of 396 after losing the toss. He picked up two important wickets of Indian captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Axar Patel on the very first day. He also dismissed Mukesh Kumar and got three beautiful wickets.
On his debut, Bashir said, “It was a very special moment receiving my Test Cap. For me to get Rohit Sharma as my first wicket was very, very special. He’s a great player of spin as well. Yeah, I just look so grateful to God and my family. They’ve supported me through thick and thin”.
